Volunteering

Thank you for showing an interest in volunteering to support people during this difficult time.

We are working in partnership with Bristol City Council, Sea Mills Community Initiatives and other groups, which means there is more paperwork than we would like – sorry about that.

You can offer to be a volunteer by following these steps.

  1. Read the Guidelines. When you register to be a volunteer, you agree to follow the Volunteering Guidelines and principles outlined there and provided in the Council documents attached.
  2. Register on Can Do Bristol. Go to Can Do Bristol, click on 'Register for free' under the 'Join the Can Do community' heading and complete the form. You will need to provide details of a referee who is not a family member.
  3. Join the Project Team. From your new 'Can Do Bristol' account, join the 'Sea Mills and Coombe Dingle' project team.
  4. Tell me you have signed up. Send me your Can Do Bristol user name and any other relevant details using the Offering Support Form. This lets me know you have registered, lets me connect you with your new online identity, and tells me something about what you are doing. You should be returned to this page when you send the form.
  5. Tell me about yourself. This is not an essential step, but I would be very grateful if you completed the Equality Monitoring Form. This takes less than a minute, and you don't have to answer any question you don't want to. Again, when the form is submitted, you should be returned to this page.
  6. I will contact the Council. It is no longer possible for you to directly register to be part of the Council's Coronavirus Response Team, so I need to pass your details on to them. The Council will contact your referee, ask them a few simple questions and check the responses; they will then send you an email, asking you to confirm some details.
  7. Respond to the email. Confirm to the Council that you are able to volunteer and understand the key aspects of the role.
  8. If required, the Council will send you a form to enable them to request a DBS check. If they do this, the results of the check will be posted to you.

Inevitably, this process takes some time: if you have any questions or concerns, please let me know. I may be able to send you some requests for help before the whole process is complete, but we still need to work through it to the end. Thank you for your patience!
